Shelby County Skate Park

Your community park will be at the Old City Pool on Washington Street. The
property is owned by the city of Shelbyville and they have agreed that we can
use it for a park, and the Parks Department is going to manage the park for us
like they do Daniels Field in the same location.

Many other Kentucky communities have built parks in recent years including
Campbellsville, Carrollton, Danville, Frankfort, Georgetown, Harrodsburg,
Leitchfield, and Owenton to name a few.

Your park will be entirely different from The Louisville Extreme Park. The
Louisville Extreme Park is called a vert park and is for really advanced
skaters. Your park is going to be a street park. It will have obstacles like
stair sets and picnic tables in addition to ramps. It is all above ground on
a cement pad.

Did you know that skateboarding is one of the safest sports there is?

Injuries per 100,000 participants:

  • Basketball - 223.5
  • Baseball - 115.7
  • Soccer - 62
  • Skateboarding - 20.2

Helmets and kneepads are encouraged for the beginners but are not required.
There will be signs posted telling people that they skate at their own risk.
